A TV Reccomendation here, and only really aimed at the British contingent on here (which I know isn't large) but have any of you been watching the "Britain From Above" series on BBC2? Extremely interesting series, from what I have seen of it. Also they featured the White Horse of Uffington in today's episode (as seen on "English Settlement"). Apparently it is at least 3,000 years old!

Regards,
Joe. Very Happy

Hopefully it'll end up on the UK channel on cable or the ABC here in Australia, like TimeTeam. I love programs like that, thanks CW!

Sounds like the wonderful "Visions of" series that PBS has shown here in the states.. I adore travel programs.. especially those from a bird's eye view.. Spectacular!

The finale of season 3 of The Venture Brothers just aired.
I reapeat-
best. show. on. television.

hilarious stuff full of smart parody but with actual character development. What other show do you know features the character development of a supervillian in a butterfly costume?
Adult Swim just began the second run of the season on it's saturday night block. 11eastern time I believe...

some hightlights of the season
Monarch doing battle with a half man/ half Dugong
-Ned, the mentally challenged human callous (parody of Fantastic Four's Thing) flying his ice cream cone shaped Voltron-type robot into battle.
-Former sea pirate's addiction to tranquilizer darts
-the return of Dr. Henry Killinger and his Magic Murder Bag
-The underground dwellers whose only contact with the outside world is a video feed of VH1 Classics (each dress like characters from old music videos)
-The introduction of Dr. Quymn, Medicine woman and her Nancy Drew like twins
-Professor Impossible (parody of FF's Mr. Fantastic) tries to kill himself (his wife, whose skin turns invisible, wants a divorce) by swallowing an explsive meant to be a self destruct for an island fortress, instead his blody just expands, covering most of the island and he is hailed as a hero.
-Brock decapitates an assassin with a shark

Just finished rewatching Lady Vengeance, the third film in Park Chan-wook's Vengeance trilogy. Still catching my breath. Those three films are so fantastically done but also so brutal.

Apparently Charlize Theron wants to produce and star in a remake. Of the three films it would be the easiest to translate for a U.S. audience but you can't beat the original.

George Carlin:

"When it comes to believing in God, I really, really tried, but, the more you look around, the more you realize something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. This is not good work. If this is the best that God can do, I知 not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resume of a Supreme Being."

All that stuff was mentioned in the drama, except the Ice Capades Laughing

I've said it before, I'll say it again.
Any argument that says there's no God because of suffering in the world is defeated in almost any theology. There's always a reason for it. The goal is heaven/enlightenment/karma whatever.

But then, I haven't seen the show, hopefully that's talked about too. and if we go much further we may as well split the discussion off into yet another aethist rant thread of it's own. (which I could do, spliting these posts into a new thread if anyone wishes)

It seems likely that god(s) came about to explain people's suffering, to make sense of it. I've read it many times that the human need to find patterns and meanings in a seemingly random and indifferent world is hard-wired into the brain. Really, how many atheists are well-off and well-educated, and how many believers are just the opposite?

Fight poverty and ignorance!

Terra, you can do so directly by giving me money and supporting my further education.

I doubt more education will shake my faith, but your contributions toward my degree would make my daily life more comfortable and give you that nice warm feeling of having helped eliminate poverty and ignorance. Wink

Make it real and I can apply to the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa.
