Always loved white music.....the portrait shots on the back are warm and lovely and the set up band cover shot is just a pictorial statement of all thatis early xtc......the attention seeking missile that is Andy, making all the effort with his pants, boots and pose and the rest just being the rest......wish barrys lager had made it on though......great use of white on white lettering too and the most iconic of xtc lettering on the best colour combination ever put together...BLACK AND WHITE. geordie boys we are here woa woa:lol:

i still love GO2.......great inner too.....Andy's poem,Colin's map,Barry's pubic library picture and ermm Terry's thing......great band shot again i think.....intense faces

Drum's and Wires is a classic though......just a pity the back was wasted with the same image for me......i'm not that keen on the paint splattered lettering either but still up there in my top 5 or so......

talking of lettering the reason i love ES isn't so much the uffington horse image on the front but i love this one because of the fantastic lettering on the inside sleeves of the lyrics.....i like the thought of this being handwritten by someone who doesn't even know xtc but after writing these lyrics ends up loving them

i thought the covers for other albums weren't that brilliant to be honest skylarking i guess being my fav at a push until AV1 which i think is really classy and suits the music well

i HATED Nonsvch....Mummer(though adore inner shots)....big express is bloody awful.......and then O&L is without doubt my most hated of all xtc releases.....i really do think that whole package music and cover had 'lets make money of crazy americans all over it '
Laughing

i think 3DEP has the best ever band shot on the back and 'this is pop? has the best use of water pistols and coathangers on a 7" single sleeve ever love it Wink

ps perse we defo see things differently Wink

Well, no wonder, platy, you've only got the one eye open there! <g>

I'm a huge fan of the psychedelic pop art of the 60s.. artists like Peter Max were godhead to me.. so naturally the O&L album cover was a hit with me! ..and I, for one, was and still am happy to help butter Andy's bread with my crazy American dollars.. us Yanks is just doing our part, we iz.. you Brits would do well to pick up the slack a little more.. ahem. Laughing

..and how can you not love The Big Express cover.. that shot is the embodiment of the sentiment and music contained within.. that cover shot IS The Big Express.. don't you see?

White Music is my least favorite XTC album cover because I just don't care for Andy's pose(sorry, Mr. P.!.. you know that I ADORE YOU).. but that's a minor complaint, really.. I don't think that XTC put out a bad looking album.. they certainly never put out a bad sounding album, and that's for sure..

Like what you like, and I will do the same.. Viva la difference, as they say! Very Happy

Hi guys- sorry for deserting the forum for so long!

Best album cover...well for me, it can only be "Go 2"- a magnificently intelligent and witty mockery of the way album covers tempt you into buying records. One of my all-time favourite album covers by ANY artist.

Worst album cover...Probably "White Music". Not becuase I have a particular problem with it, but just because I find the poses on the front to be a bit cheesy, to be honest. The music more than makes up for it though!

Regards,
Crosswires. Very Happy

Well it changes with mood and over time, but probably spent least time ogling Wasp Star.

The Nonsuch cover Disapointed (but the vignettes are great), and Mummer didn't get many second glances.

At the other end of the scale: hard not to put Go 2 at number 1, but at one time I did make my own Drums & Wires T-shirt, so probably a tie between those 2.

Highly commended: the 3D Fossil Fuel.

And yes platinumheart, why didn't they just take a few snaps of the band for the back of D&W? Would've been much better and just as cheap and easy.

I think the camera broke, and Mr Branson wouldn't buy a new one. Or something like that.

For me, D&W is the most iconic (with ES a close second) GO2 the cleverest, Mummer is pants and Big Express, though doing exactly what it says on the tin, is shite.

Will that do?

I remember holding the round 12" LP cover in a record shop and thinking it was rather cool, but had insufficient spondulicks at the time -- ended up with the CD version which, I agree, loses a lot in translation.

Say it ain't so, spider mage, there you go again pointing backwards again.

I'm still on the "worst of" threads thing because I want to correct you on that again.
And I want to let you know what I did as a fan and as a listener. And I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the XTC forum people and let them know my record on the ... um ... records.

Yes. Well, as the forum's only completely tone-deaf member and being the king of the morons, AnotherSatellite feels and sees impacts of album covers more so than any other forum member. And we know that it's real.

I'm not one to attribute every album -- cover of album to the changes in the band. There is something to be said also for the band's activities, but also for the cyclical changes in the music industry. But there are real changes going on in between album covers. And I don't want to argue about the causes. What I want to argue about is, how are we going to get there to positively affect the impacts?

We have got to appreciate those album covers. We have got to encourage other forums also to come along with us with the impacts of album covers, what we can do about that.

As a fan, I was the first fan to form an album cover committee to start dealing with the impacts. We've got to reduce emissions.

Ooops, sorry, that was a bit too personal.

Rather, AnotherSatellite is right there with an "all of the above" approach to deal with album covers.

Thank you, and good night.
