No 2 for me!
What an amazing primary colour amusment park funhouse of an album... one of the albums that turned my whole musical direction around!!! _________________ 'thank you my friend... for giving me gold, thank you my friend, you gave me everything I needed to be told' |

the saddest thing about drums and wires is that they didn't pull another single off it.......shit sometimes you become a bit reticent about how feckin brilliant a single 'making plans for nigel' was.....like as soon as you mention XTC everyone including your auntie hilda knows 'nigel' as 'their' song and for years i'd be face twisting at that.....but i've started to just love this track again.....it's feckin perfect.....i just wished they had of went for real by reel, ten feet tall or helicopter as a follow up.....'boat' was a great little song but as a follow up to the 'nigel' it gave a bad 2nd impression........the XTC single choices of virgin should be a swedish black and white film from the 6o's ......feckin tragic!
great, great album.....has it aged well though?
one tiny gripe from the geordie pefrectionist.......the inserts with those much needed earlier album lyrics and the freebie 45rpm were perfecto as was the uber ultra iconic sleeve but.....here is my only gripe of xtc's marvellous drums and wire's......the back cover is a wasted part of the sleeve did we really need that wonderful face on both sides? _________________ it would all have been different if radios in motion had of been the second single and meccanik dancing (oh we go!) the fourth |

I think Day In Day Out would have made a good single. |

Ricky Wilson - played bass on "Ten Feet Tall" and "Roads Girdle the Globe"?
WTF! I can't believe I didn't know this. I didn't know the man, but it was my honor to write his obit in the college paper in his home town, Athens, Ga.
Does anyone know the story behind this one? _________________ Les Kendreaux: doing pretty much as we please since 1983. |

I never noticed that before.
And I usually read all the album fine print stuff.
Don't know, but would like to. |

This is odd. It's apparently some sort of urban myth among Ricky wilson/B-52s fans, but Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | which bass Colin played it on, and how:
Only when Steve and Hugh were setting up the mix for the track did I suddenly hear and appreciate what Colin was playing there -- genius! He played a black Fender Mustang bass through a H+H bass amp with an Orange 4"x12" cabinet... _________________ Les Kendreaux: doing pretty much as we please since 1983. |

I don't see the info on the Chalkhills site,
only on the Wilipedia site.
Someone may be pulling a fast one. |
