Playground has the line "marked by the masters", and there are so many ways to interpret what that means. Relate it to "careful-what-you-say-ground", and there is a vast wealth of meaning and poignancy. And that's to take just two of the lines.
Murdered is a less profound piece, obviously. I like it, however, for the same reason that I like, say The Disappointed or Great Fire: it is a fantastic pop song.
(Edited for poor punctuation.) |
"Playground" just came up on my iPod recently, and I was taken anew by the lyrics "Watch the leaves all tear away/Leaving you but lined like an exercise book". Just gorgeous, and poignant, and ripe for multiple interpretations. _________________ A chorus is a thing that bears repeating. |

Monstrance again. I'm currently a bit besotted with 'Winterwerk' and 'Children Love Our Dear Helmsman'...I think Andy, Barry and Martyn should be very proud of these tracks. Outstanding. _________________ And what made me think we're any better,

listening to b-sides and loving andy's little homage to 'feeling groovy' on the outro to 'jump'(great little song it is) also after dancing around to 'instant tunes' it struck me how pissed off barry must have felt that this fun silly song of colins made it to plastic at the time barry takes like 'us being us' 'things fall to its' and 'sargasso bar' didn't
i love xtc b-sides though.....some remarkable extras _________________ it would all have been different if radios in motion had of been the second single and meccanik dancing (oh we go!) the fourth |

Nowt wrong wi' that, Platters!
Tonight is Apple Venus: just started River of Orchids. For some reason this brings tears to my eyes, and I can't exactly pin down the reason: a kind of exhilarating sadness, if that makes sense..... _________________ And what made me think we're any better,

Played Great Fire yesterday, the first time for years. It blew me away. The funny thing is I wasn't that keen on it when it was released. I've been in love before........................................... |

I listen to XTC! Don't forget me!
Well, yesterday I listened to Nonsuch on my daily walk. It's perfect, because it's an hour plus! I am really getting into "Humble Daisy." What a lovely song! _________________ Too much! Too much! |

i reckon it's 'frost circus' on repeat.....xtc's top wank(isn't that a venue?)
song......not that i've tried them all or owt
today i had english settlement on......hadn't played it all the way through for a good few month.....it's a wonderful collection of songs ES....sigh i wish they'd have toured this in the uk...and i'd got to see them one last time......i still love jason and the argonaouts......i wish andy had of called it the golden fleece though because jason and the argonauts sounds a bit naff for a song title of a song as magic as this.....some great colin tracks on here too....they played some of these songs on the tour before they recorded ES.......can anyone remember the projected images they had above the band as they played a few songs? i remember them doing snowman, ball and chain and english roundabout live 6 months before ES came out.....yacht dance......still makes my top ten list......i really love this tiny heartbeat of a tune.......talking of which......
i also had on holly partridges solo stuff today from her mypage thing.....
this stuff is REALLY good......everthing new, ship of trust and one other song.....jaw dropping knee buckling ear opening.... raw, beautiful songs.....well impressive.....thanks for the hint kelt! _________________ it would all have been different if radios in motion had of been the second single and meccanik dancing (oh we go!) the fourth |
