Sorry about the rant folks.
Of course there's some truth in it but I don't need to tell or suggest anyone what to do.
Truzzi knows he can get get provoked by those guys, doesn't need me say so.
I have no idea if Dr. Hugbine likes or dislikes Duck Soup and Jack, he's argued with them as much as anyone but in doing so has somehow kept some relationship with them which is impressive and the Spam thread is part of that.
Maybe the core of it was saying that "we" don't like them, at times I genuinely dislike them. Some really do want them gone. So I addressed this to the people who feel that way or sometimes feel that way. Let them be when they're being difficult but don't ignore them when they actually something to say. (and if you really don't think they have anything meaningful to say-the ignoring thing is great).
I do feel a bit railroaded by this though. No one seems to have understood what I was saying here and the only person who wanted to talk about it was Duck Soup. By answering his sincere post with a sincere one of my own I thought we could actually figure something out between the two of us. So yes, I feel the Spam thing is a distraction. It's like people saw what I was doing and thought "oh, there he goes again!" without seeing that I'm actually trying to be level-headed about this.
It's not like we can't discuss things and come to actual understanding with them. We did so in the the Suggestions threads about content and organization. When we focused on discussing the things that really bothered us, stopped taking sides and ignored provocation everyone actually figured out what everyone else thought about it. We didn't even need to agree about it but now no one can really snipe about it and we can actually joke about it now (see the thread in Ape about the home page link). _________________ ...in my pants |

I haven't come to this thread for a while, and I should, for I've learned that Donavan is the voice of reason and Blushift is intimidating.

No fooling Spi, in posting a reply, when I click between words to position the cursor line, selecting an emoticon simply inserts a word surrounded by ::, so it shouldn't matter where it's placed.
The only other options I can think of are at the bottom of a post reply or in your profile. What are your settings for Smilies, BBCode or HTML? |
No idea. How do I find that out? _________________ Jeezus, you dense Limey |

If you post, or reply to a post, you will see those options listed to your lower left under the emoticon set. I think you can also change these in your profile. _________________ "ignorance is bliss" - Jellyfish |

Looks like not being over keen on The Beatles is a war crime too far for some people. |

No. But some people might think you would look a bit of a tit if you tried to make a virtue of it. |

so what about people who bang on about them all the time. tits too I guess? now please come on. stop being silly. at least, just like you i try to keep things going on here. and the beatles are a bit boring, so what? my kids introduce me to music that is really good and different and interesting. and yes as much as i like xtc they bore me a bit now too. we need to move foreward to stop us all becoming boring old farts. not that there is anything wrong with that, hug |

Well you're right - I am a BOF (and doubtless a tit too). My point is really that if you are bored with the Beatles is seems a little disingenuous to start a new thread called "The Beatles". That's all.
And I will now get out of the damn way so someone can welcome TW in the manner appropriate for someone who is making the kind of music you describe: "really good and different and interesting". (And yes you can add the epithet "brown noser" too if you wish.) |
