Hello everyone.

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet but there is an exclusive interview with Andy in Mojo Magazine regarding the forthcoming XTC reissues.

To summarise, the EMI reissue campaign starts in April with expanded 2 disc versions of English Settlement, Skylarking and Oranges And Lemons.

ES is likely to include Orange Dust on the bonus whilst it seems that Todd Rungren has been assisting on the Skylarking stuff (it may also feature the original artwork).

It goes on to say that APE will be releasing in March expanded versions of the Dukes material with Rag And Bone Buffet, Explode Together and Beeswax to follow later along with vinyl versions of the expanded XTC LP's.

All three have been involved with sleevenotes and it goes on to quote Andy saying that there is no chance of a new XTC record although he wants to repair his relationship with Colin as "it's worse than divorce when members of the old gang fall out".

Hope this helps - sorry I haven't got a scanner so I can't post it but any more info that you guys have got re tracklisting etc will be really interesting!

Liam.

XTc reissues? Why? Are the originals on CD now not available? Or are we talking LP's. Somebody help me out. I don't need more of the same with the promise of an extra. I feel it's all a bit too commercial. Or have I mised the point?

I'm not interested in re-issues either, all a bit warblish. Would like a new album though - even an AP one would do as we're not getting an XTC one.

I remember reading similar sentiments with Fuzzy Warbles and The Japanese Paper Sleeve Collection as well... and I still feel the same towards these upcoming re-issues. Call me a lemming, but I'll be ready with plastic in hand as soon as a pre-order is announced. Thirty years on and XTC is THE one band (make that two, along with The Beatles - and three+ for Jeff Lynne's music) that has never gone out of fashion in my musical world. Yeah, new music is nice and all, but how often does one get into some new sounds and a few weeks, months or maybe a year or two later it grows stale?
Not so with XTC. Every dollar I've spent over the years - and will continue to spend as new re-issues arrive - is like an investment in pure aural nirvana. I'll be picking up the new Mojo this weekend (or next most likely, as we're a bit behind here in Canada) so I can read all about it and build up the anticipation... 2009 is going to be a great year! Very Happy

Pretty much my sentiments, too. My threshold on this subject is bonus tracks. I didn't bother with the 2002 reissues because there was nothing new—the "Coat of Many Cupboards" box took care of that—and I barely noticed the Japanese paper sleeves. I only bought the "Apple Box" so I could get those two new tracks (as downloads; I couldn't justify the exchange rate for the big package with the T-shirts). I'll pay $15-$20 for a CD single with one unreleased demo, but not for a full-length remastered CD with no new music.

This time sounds very promising, though!

Reissuing on vinyl sounds cool. Hopefully they do the artwork properly this time! It will rain oranges and lemons once more!

Well, this is interesting news.

I take it from the inclusion of Rag & Bone Buffet that the second discs won't be full of b-sides and non-album tracks, so there must be some bits and pieces that didn't make it to Coat of Many Cupboards, or the Fuzzy Warbles series.

So what are we expecting? Any suggestions as to what might be included to tempt us out with our wallets once more?

Despite what I wrote above about b-sides, it would certainly be nice to see some of the rarer songs and versions on CD again, or at last.

I would hope this means that Colin will finally release some of the demos that we haven't heard.

So...does anyone have any idea as to what might be on those second discs?

I found the issue in question, and I think it's amazing that re-issues with no firm tracklisting or information get this kind of coverage.

Maybe they expected to be able to confirm tracklisting, or at least give some hints, by the deadline, which didn't happen but they went with the piece anyway. A lot of padding makes it into the first issue of the year in most magazines - a lot of it gets written before everyone went on holiday.

But I'd still love to hear anything, any hints, or even any speculation (we used to be good at that, on the old forum) as to what might be used to fill a second disc for each of these albums, and how much of it will be previously unissued material.

Anyone care to make a prediction or two?
