is a tasteful solo by Gilson Lavis, ex Squeeze, now with Jools Holland's Big Band. I've always liked his style and admired his playing for years. His playing on "Babylon & On" & "Frank" is absolutely brilliant, especially on "Hourglass", "Peyton Place" & "Rose I Said". |
Couldn't agree more, Terence, my son - big Gil is one of my favourite drummers - it was my pleasure to meet him and shake his hand at a Jools gig years ago - a gentleman - much like your good self, Tel!
I don't expect he was quite so thrilled at meeting me, mind! _________________ "Indicate precisely what you mean to say" |

First proper big gig I ever went to was Tull at The Rainbow with Barrimore B at the tubs He was indeed jolly good, as was (and is, or should that be "This Was"?) Martin Barre t'guitar mangler. _________________ A bounder: and proud if it! |

Barrie was indeed a great drummer, I liked his work on one of Robert Plant's solo albums as well. Saw him live twice.
Interesting quote I discovered on Wiki:
In a comment on his drumming for the Jethro Tull albums he said; "I've always admired people who invent — and on a percussion level I admire inventors of rhythm. I tried to strive for that in Tull, but now I go to great lengths to advise the drummers in the bands I'm managing not to play anything like I used to play in Tull, because it was so busy and over-the-top."
I believe Martin Barre played on all the Tull albums except "This Was" which was Mick Abrahams, who went on to start Blodwyn Pig. The story I heard was that when auditioning new Tull guitarists, Martin was the only one who asked to tune up beforehand. |

Yes indeed Jeff, but why let the facts get in the way of a tiny little bit of very slightly humorous word-play? _________________ A bounder: and proud if it! |
