IMHO, their most underrated album.
"ladybird" is one of the most beautiful songs i ever heard. "great fire" is one of these songs than can make you happy no matter how dull is your day.
extraordinary and subtle production by steve nye. and genius songwriting, although colin's best had yet to come. |

No votes for the album so far that turned them from a best selling post punk live band into studio based song writers and produced the fabulous Love on a farm boys wages _________________ Five years of posting without a signature |

One thing I've got to say is that the remastering of this album was in my mind the best of the bunch - it certainly made me appreciate it even more than I had. _________________

a great album.....one of my faves when i stop and think about it
Me and the Wind has that great line about drowning inside your syrup, what a lovely way for me to die.....which seems to be brought back to life for 'summers cauldron'
i love the whole mummers concept but i think the outer sleeve is a shocker .....Funk Pop a Roll is a scorcher, a great way to cut off
and i agree Jordi Ladybird is a beautiful song
should have sold more... pity new romantics were not willing to turn into new rustics

I don't know why I don't play this album more often. It's incredible. There's not a duff (or even demi-duff) song on it.
The top three are:
Wonderland
In Loving Memory Of A Name
Ladybird
...but it seems almost churlish to pick out any songs, because they're all so good. _________________ "...every tongue that gets bit always has another word to say" |

Fantastic album, and the biggest ever shock of the enormous difference between two albums. This was NOTHING like we expected after ES was it?
The true turning point from the "old" band into the "new".
And being a Bass player, I HAVE to say that this is Colin at his VERY VERY best. The bass parts to "Me and the wind" and "Ladybird" are just orgasmic. |
