This is not a joke sadly. US contractors like Halliburton have a clause in their employee contracts that prevents the employee from suing the company for things that may happen to them in the course of their job. In this case being GANG RAPED BY OTHER EMPLOYEES (still not a joke.) This is not theoretical, a woman sued them for just this offense.

An amendment was put forward to end this clause for companies that do business with the government, which is of course unconstitutional for domestic employees, and a vote was taken. The amendment passed 68-30, which means 30 US Senators voted to prevent any legal recourse to an employer that allows the rape to occur. One of them was a guy running for president recently, big on family values and all that. Here's a list if you are curious:

Alexander (R-TN)
Barrasso (R-WY)
Bond (R-MO)
Brownback (R-KS)
Bunning (R-KY)
Burr (R-NC)
Chambliss (R-GA)
Coburn (R-OK)
Cochran (R-MS)
Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
DeMint (R-SC)
Ensign (R-NV)
Enzi (R-WY)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Isakson (R-GA)
Johanns (R-NE)
Kyl (R-AZ)
McCain (R-AZ)
McConnell (R-KY)
Risch (R-ID)
Roberts (R-KS)
Sessions (R-AL)
Shelby (R-AL)
Thune (R-SD)
Vitter (R-LA)
Wicker (R-MS)

If you ever see any of these guys giving their opinions on news shows, just remember what their REAL values are. You just can't make this kind of shit up.

When I first read the list of who voted against Franken's bill, it really didn't come as a surprise to me.. just further proof that the GOP is the party of blatant misogyny. Sickening.

I'm sorry, but people should be out in the streets about things like this - I hope they are.

Yeah these are usual cast of characters. The only one that was a surprise was Judd Gregg, the supposed moderate that was almost part of the Obama administration. Glad it didn't happen now.

The good news is the bad guys lost this one. But I hope every candidate running against these clowns next time, reminds the voters of their moral repugnance.
